CESO — Center for Explorations in the Hidden Sector: Portales
Since the beginning of his career, Teo Monsalve has been interested in exploring the intersections of what modern Western thought has constituted as binary formations: nature and culture; man and machine; natural and artificial; artisanal and industrial; and the entire spectrum of reflection inscribed within what has come to be known as Posthumanism, “a philosophy of mediation that relinquishes any dualism of confrontation, as well as any hierarchical legacy” (Ferrando, 2019). In this way, he remains attentive to the processes through which displacements and hybridizations are configured, contributing to the circumvention of essentialisms and purisms across diverse domains of knowledge and artistic practice.
His proposals are regularly grounded in platforms of exchange between sectors that have traditionally been considered separate from one another. It is precisely this quality that situates him within a sphere governed by an ethics that sustains plural perspectives and modes of existence in which dualistic thinking has no place. Against this backdrop, his aesthetic position contributes to an understanding of diversity within a horizon of multiplicities, abandoning any hierarchical order that imposes exclusions and prevents processes of interaction capable of producing unpredictable outcomes.
The Hidden Sector: Portals is the fourth iteration of a research and creative project that the artist has been developing since 2018. Rooted in the field of art, this inquiry is grounded in a methodology through which aesthetic processes and bodies of knowledge associated with the so-called hard sciences are brought into relation by means of abstract visual codes derived both from images produced by technological devices in the service of science and from the heritage of archaeology and art.

Desde siempre, a Teo Monsalve le ha interesado incursionar en las intersecciones de lo que para el pensamiento occidental moderno constituyen formaciones binarias: naturaleza y cultura; hombre y máquina; natural y artificial; artesanal e industrial; y en todo el espectro reflexivo que se inscribe en lo que se denomina Posthumanismo, «una filosofía de la mediación que descarga cualquier dualismo de confrontación, así como cualquier legado jerárquico» (Ferrando, 2019). De este modo, él está atento a los procesos en los que se configuran desplazamientos e hibridaciones que contribuyen a sortear esencialismos y purismos en diversos dominios del conocimiento y de las prácticas artísticas.
Sus propuestas se asientan, regularmente, en plataformas de intercambio entre sectores que han sido considerados separados unos de los otros. Y es esta cualidad la que lo posiciona en la franja arbitrada por una ética que sustenta perspectivas plurales y modos de existencia en los que no cabe el pensamiento dualista. Con estos antecedentes, su posicionamiento estético aporta a la comprensión de la diversidad en un horizonte de multiplicidades; abandonando cualquier orden jerárquico que imponga exclusiones e imposibilite procesos de interacción que ofrezcan resultados imprevisibles.
El Sector Oculto: Portales es la cuarta instancia de un proyecto de investigación y creación que el artista desarrolla desde el 2018. Esta pesquisa, que tiene su arraigo en el campo del arte, se afirma en un método donde procesos estéticos y franjas de saber inscritas en las llamadas ciencias duras, se vinculan por medio de códigos visuales abstractos pertenecientes tanto a imágenes provistas por dispositivos tecnológicos al servicio de la ciencia, como concernientes a patrimonios de la arqueología o del arte.
