Neotropical Fables brings together five bodies of work by Teo Monsalve (Quito, 1988). The series are connected by a similar network of ideas and intuitions: migratory movements, the tracing of constellations, echoes of nature, speculative fictions, pluriverses, and possible worlds. Presented at No Lugar, the exhibition functions as a narrative through which to discover the artist’s interests over recent years, years marked by journeys between countries, but also between the city and the rainforest.
The five series in the exhibition operate as elastic narratives that draw close to one another; there is no single stable structure here, nor any pretense. Instead, these narrative-series are explorations that seek to destabilize preconceived narratives about nature and bring us closer to imagining sensitive forms of movement, taking into account the agency of the non-human (hummingbirds–migration) and interspecies alliances (human–plant).
Neotropical Fables composes (following the notion of composing/composting proposed in Latour’s Compositional Manifesto) a migratory journey of movements between constellations and echoes of a nature mediated by the human, yet latent in its references and materialities. While painting is the medium that connects all the series, its departures toward collage, ceramics, or the decomposition of its own parts become assemblages of meaning that conspire to generate connections among living beings, materials, forms of knowledge, and cosmologies.

ESP Fábulas neotropicales reúne cinco series de trabajo de Teo Monsalve (Quito 1988). Las series están atravesadas por una red similar de ideas e intuiciones: los desplazamientos migratorios, el trazo de las constelaciones, los ecos de la naturaleza, las ficciones especulativas, los pluriversos y los mundos posibles. La exhibición presentada en No Lugar funciona como una narrativa para descubrir los intereses de los últimos años de trabajo del artista, años de tránsitos entre países, pero también entre la ciudad y la selva.
Las cinco series de la exhibición funcionan como tramas elásticas que se acercan unas a otras; aquí no hay una sola estructura estable, tampoco imposturas, pues las series-trama son exploraciones que procuran desestabilizar narrativas preconcebidas sobre la naturaleza y acercarnos a la posibilidad de imaginar tránsitos sensibles, considerando la agencia de lo no humano (colibríes-desplazamientos) y las alianzas interespecies (humano-planta).
Fábulas neotropicales compone (a la manera de componer/compost del Manifiesto Composicionista de Latour) un recorrido migrante, de desplazamientos entre constelaciones y ecos de una naturaleza mediada por lo humano, pero latente en las referencias y materialidades. Si bien la pintura es el recurso que conecta a todas las series, sus desviaciones hacia el collage, hacia la cerámica o la descomposición de sus partes son ensamblajes de sentidos que confabulan para generar conexiones entre vivientes, materias, saberes y cosmogonías.
